  • Mercy and Grace

Lately I have pulsed several times on forgiveness.  There is a reason.  God, in His wonderful mercy and grace has forgiven me some things that I would be hard-pressed to forgive others, had they been done to me.  Not only that, but friends and family are also forgiving.  Those who are averse to thoughts of forgiveness have a bondage and a boundary that is not always evident, but comes into play at all the wrong times.   Withholding grace, for a Christian is a deplorable thing - one that we should always seek to overcome.   Forgive us Lord, as we have forgiven others.

    From my inbox this morning:

"Mercy is the key that sets a prisoner free. It extends grace in place of judgment, forgiveness in place of punishment, and honor in place of disdain. It makes no sense, except to a heart filled with God's unconditional love."

"Mercy is a gift God asks you to give to others - not because they deserve it, but because of the mercy God has demonstrated in your own life. Ask God to bring to mind anyone who could use a tender touch of mercy. Depending on how God leads you to bestow this special gift, the one who receives it may never even be fully aware of its extent. But, you will. You'll find that being merciful frees up your own heart to love more authentically."

With all my heart, Father, I thank you for the wondrous grace and mercy You have demonstrated at the cross in Your Son, Jesus.  I thank You for the reminders that Your Holy Spirit prods me with at those times when I find myself harboring anger toward those who have wronged me.  Amen
