None But Thee
Those of us who are believers, who follow the Way, are family. We are not alone in the sense of being forsaken and without companions. We are Christian and Faithful. As a community, we are alone because we are not of this world. At the times when we are feeling alone, we realize God's longing for fellowship; and we know why the agreement in the Godhead was made before the foundation of the world to redeem for Himself a remnant, a people for Himself.
When the enemy of our souls begins to point out to us the flaws in our brethren and to attempt to introduce feelings of superiority over our brothers because of their failures to measure up to our "standards," we become detached from that fellowship with God because we are withdrawing from the fellowship of believers.
The world hates us, but among those in the world are still some who will hear our Shepherd's voice and will follow Him. So our God directs us to tell the story of the gospel and to show His love to that world which, by and large, may never respond because there are some who are more alone than we are - detached as yet from their heavenly Father and the Christians who are to be their true brothers and sisters.
This hymn speaks of our being alone with none but our God. How true it is that our fellowship is in and with Christ, and in that way, our aloneness is very real. These words make plain how precious is that aloneness and how blessed we are to be made part of His family:
Alone with none but thee, my God,
I journey on my way.
What need I fear when thou art near,
O King of night and day?
More safe am I within thy hand
than if a host should round me stand.
My destined time is known to thee,
and death will keep his hour;
did warriors strong around me throng,
they could not stay his power:
no walls of stone can man defend
when thou thy messenger dost send.
My life I yield to thy decree,
and bow to thy control
in peaceful calm, for from thine arm
no power can wrest my soul.
Could earthly omens e'er appala man that heeds the heavenly call?
The child of God can fear no ill,
his chosen dread no foe;
we leave our fate with thee, and wait
thy bidding when to go.
'Tis not from chance our comfort springs.
thou art our trust, O King of kings.

Good post and hymn. I'm glad you look forward to fridays!
@estadquietos@xanga - Thank you Julie. So thoughtful of you! I planted flowers for Mother's Day just as I would any other year...and sending a card to her mom also helped.
In the past couple years as I've grown in appreciation, understanding and enjoyment of the living fellowship I have with the Father through Christ and His Spirit, I've also grown in my appreciation of the fellowship I have with the saints. I continue to thank God for Christian brothers and sisters who love and bear with me by His grace working in them (when I'm so often unbearable!).
I love this lyric:
Alone with none but thee, my God,
I journey on my way.
Even though we do have fellowship w/ all the saints, we each have that individual journey – and those are precious times when we are alone w/ none but Him, much like Jacob at Bethel. "Surely the LORD is in this place and I knew it not." Where can we go from His presence...?
You think you're unbearable? How often I have wished to have a "do over!"
Those precious times. Yes! He knows when we need that special time alone with Him.
@quest4god - Those times when we rains down on us are precious. You can't predict them - after all, He is God!
We're to guard our doctrine and practice; I regret to say that I continue to fail miserably at the latter. That's what makes God's persevering love for us through Christ and through the saints (of course the saints are united in Christ...) all the more amazing.
@naphtali_deer@xanga - There's a new song in my heart! (from a song we used to sing). Lately, I've had a song - a different one each day - when I awake. It's a gift from my Lord! I won't say there's no sadness or loneliness for Peggy, because that's not true. His joy though, is still my strength. I must say that the saints have been ever so supportive and caring. I love this family!!
@quest4god - It's wonderful when the Lord in His mercy descends and refreshes us like that. :) Isaiah 44:1-5.
